What has Msafara accomplished?

March 17, 2008

Pastor M. writes:

Time will judge just how effective the Msafara was in impacting Kenya’s destiny. And off course reports will be written and audits done. However, from my limited perspective and off the top of my head, several results of the Msafara seem evident…

300 Kenyans have had a chance to visit and interact with the situation on the ground firsthand. They were able to see the extent of the country’s devastation for themselves. They learnt to care for the displaced. They were forced to deal with their own prejudices and to relate closely to people of other tribes. Each of these belongs to a faith community and will return to it with a message of unity and hope. Especially powerful because many who came are the leaders of their churches…

There was heartfelt reconciliation and a resulting unity among church leaders in the various towns we visited. Many leaders confessed that by taking sides in the political events, they had reduced their ability to care for all the communities they were responsible to care for. By repenting of this short-sightedness and committing to work with leaders of other tribes, they now model the way for the churches they lead to maintain peace in their areas and to care for those affected by the violence. And for church leaders to conduct themselves differently come the next election. There is great power for good when the church is united. For instance, we were informed after we left of an initiative by church pastors in Naivasha to ensure that the communities evicted from their town could return safely.

Many churches are caring for displaced people who are housed by their members. Because these people don’t live in the camps, they are ‘under the radar’ so to speak, and little support is going to the needy families caring for them. By delivering food and humanitarian supplies to the pastor’s fellowships in the various towns, Msafara opened up new distribution channels that take care and support to many of the most needy. The Red Cross has done a great job, but they can only do so much. We hope these channels will continue to be used by different agencies that are looking for alternative relief distribution channels

The hardest to quantify may be the most significant. In each town, united church leaders were able to engage in prayer together over their communities. The bible teaches us that God answers prayers that are prayed in humility, unity and repentance. In 2Chronicles, God promises,

‘If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, if they seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land’.

I can’t wait to see the healing and turning around of our nation that will happen as God begins to answer the prayers that we prayed together!

P.S. Grateful that all the Nairobi wasafiri arrived safely home this afternoon.

God Bless Kenya

March 17, 2008

Beloved Praying Brethren,
Greetings in Jesus name – the name that is above all names.
Beloved, is it a coincident that Msafara came to a close on Palm Sunday in the city of Kisumu? I believe nobody planned it that way, but that the Lord Himself designed it to be so. We would have been here the weekend before, but see what God has done!

Kisumu has been very exciting to say the least. Saturday morning we had a wonderful time of prayer, bringing repentance for all that we did as Kenyans and more so that the church the part it played in the run up to the general elections last year.

The presence of the Lord was pulpable. It was moving to see so many church fathers from around the country gathered together in unity of purpose and that to reclaim the soul of Kenya for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The best part of that prayer service was when a bishop from central Kenya stood up and called a bishop from Luo Nyanza and both extended repentance to each other over what the communities did to one another soon after the elections of December last year. This was so moving that most people just wept. Kenya is healed!!!!!

Sunday afternoon we came together for a time of celebration of the victory of the Lord.

Brethren, its been awesome.

God Bless Kenya

God Bless you for standing with the Msafara.

Please pray that as we pull out of Kisumu this morning the Lord would send angels to accompany us as we go back to our homes, work stations.

Pray that none of the Msafara team would suffer any loss.

Thank you for being there.

Together until Kenya is out of the woods,

Pst Israel.

Prayer Corner 8

March 15, 2008

While the warm reception in Kisumu was a blessing, it does not mean that the war is over. Actually, the battle is even hotter in this city. There is a lot of resistance in Kisumu and one can sense hostility on the ground. We will as such only win the battle for this city through a power encounter. Pray that God mighty in battle would fight this battle for us. Pray that every altar dedicated to satanic forces would be broken and that no demonic prince would have a hold over the city or its inhabitants.

Pray for spiritual protection for the Wasafiri. Pray particularly for Pastor Simon Mbevi who is our War general as he leads the forces of God on the offensive. Pray for protection, refreshing and strength. Continue praying for the leadership of Msafara; that God would not allow any counter attacks from the enemy on them or their families.

Pray for restoration in this city. Pray that God would restore the fortunes of this city, the fortunes of the church and that God would once again gather His people in the city.

Pray against the spirit of negative ethnic stereotypes in this city. Pray that the tribes in this city would live in harmony. Pray for a continued healing in Kisumu.

Kisumu experienced a lot of bloodshed. Pray that the blood of Christ would atone for the blood that cries out for atonement in the city. Pray for forgiveness and against the spirit of vengeance.

Speak against the historical covenants that were taken against the Luos as a tribe that have resulted in bitterness, frustration and hurt. Pray that these oaths would be broken and that the Luos as a people would rise up to their God given mandate in the country.

Covenants between Luos and the Kikuyus have not been honored in the past. Deal with the powers that lead men to break these covenants. Pray that God would destroy the powers that are bent on causing mayhem between these two tribes. Speak a blessing over the new covenant that President Kibaki and Hon. Raila signed to end the crisis.

Pray against the spirits of manipulation and frustration. Pray that God would judge anyone who frustrates this agreement for the sake of our country. Pray that the new covenant between Raila and Kibaki would be a blessing to the nation. Protect and bless the agreement in the name of Jesus.

Speak to the altars in Luo Nyanza and central province that seek to empower politicians.

Speak a shaking over the all these altars by the powers of the Almighty. Pray that our leaders would only come from the Lord. Invite God to come and reign in these two provinces and that through these, the blessings would flow to the rest of the nation.

Finally entered Kisumu

March 14, 2008

Beloved Brethren,
Greetings in the mighty and precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for doing battle with us in the heavenlies in prayer.

Warm welcome in KisumuWe have finally entered the city of Kisumu. We got here shortly before 6PM to a tumultuous welcome by the local pastors who drove along with the Msafara 6 buses and cars complete with police outriders! If this is a sign of things to come, then the Msafara is likely to end on very high note.

Eldoret was superb. We had fears and reservations about the place but the Lord surprised us. Mombasa had been number one in terms of breakthrough in warfare until we got to Eldoret.

The kind of healing that the Lord performed in Eldoret is beyond our wildest imagination. Pastors across tribal lines brought repentance to God and to one another, forgave each other and washed each other’s feet. We crowned it with Holy Communion. It was awesome! The Lord gave us a sign of rain in the evening as acceptance of the prayers that were offered to Him.

Please pray for the deep healing needed in Kisumu. Kisumu had the second highest mayhem of death and destruction of property after Eldoret.

Pray for the Msafara team for energy to get through with the final leg of this great prayer warfare. Ask the Lord to shield us from any mischief the devil may want to visit on us.

Pray asking the Lord to silence the deep altars of witchcraft, divination, sorcery and idolatry from speaking to Nyanza and indeed to this nation once and for all.

Ask the Lord to give us discernment as to what needs to be done as we have only two days here in Kisumu.

Thanks for praying for the soul of Kenya.

In Christ,
Pst Israel

Kisumu: When the Ark returned to the City.

March 14, 2008

The Ark of the Covenant signified God’s presence and dwelling amongst His people. That is why the Israelites shouted, cheered and played every kind of music when the ark came into the city (1 Chronicles 15:28ff). The entire city partied. This was the atmosphere when Msafara drove into Kisumu. The crowd was charged and there was a spontaneous burst of praise as the wasafiri alighted from their buses to join in the dance and jubilation. Thank God for the warm reception that this city accorded Msafara. Pray that Just as the Ark represented God’s presence, through Msafara, God’s presence and glory would fill this lakeside city.

Psalm 24:1 says that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. Claim the city of Kisumu for God; declare God’s reign and dwelling in this city. Pray that every living being in Kisumu would turn to God in repentance and humility.

The Psalm goes on to say in verse 3 and 4 that only those with clean hands and pure hearts, who also have not bowed down to idols or sworn deceitfully can ascend onto God’s holy mountain. Confess on behalf of the city for all Sin. Repent on behalf of Kisumu for the blood that was spilt, innocent lives that were taken and the senseless destruction of property that took place during the post election crisis. Pray that in God’s mercy, He would once again restore this city to his holy mountain; that God’s dwelling would be with the people of Kisumu.

Verse 5 says that these people would receive blessings from God and righteousness from the God of their salvation. Claim blessing for Kisumu: pray that from this lakeside city, the glory of the Lord would spread to the rest of the country. Pray that righteousness and justice would be the foundation upon which the city is rebuilt.

Verse 7 attributes the blessings to the generation of those that seek God. Pray that out of the young people of Kisumu, God would raise a generation of those that seek Him. Pray for the salvation of every young man and woman in Kisumu especially those that were involved in the violence and destruction. Pray for a Spiritual revival in the church at Kisumu.

Verses 7 to 10 command the gates to lift up their heads that the King of glory, the Lord of hosts would walk in. Declare the gates of Kisumu open to the Spirit of Christ. Pray that God would bind the strong man of Kisumu and that any scheming of the enemy in opposition to the Gospel in this town would be torn apart.

Pray that Christ; the King of glory would be exalted and extolled in this city. Pray that out of the altars of worship in Kisumu, true worship will resonate back to God.

Declare freedom for the captives in Kisumu and healing for the broken hearted. Declare that never again shall blood be spilt in this city. Pray for reconciliation and acceptance amongst tribes in Kisumu. Pray for healing!

Pray for the unity of the church in Kisumu. Pray that any barriers that may have been built by the evil one amongst the clergy would be broken and that a new found unity would accompany the spread of the Gospel in this city.

Pray against the powers of the occult in Kisumu. Declare the kingdom of God above the city Kisumu.

Miracle in Eldoret

March 14, 2008

Pastor M. writes:

Eldoret had been undergoing a major dry spell by the time we got there. During our rally there, Pst. Simon who was leading prayers prayed that it would rain that evening. By the time we got to Kisumu, the texts were coming in – it was raining in Eldoret! We need to continue praying for good rains as many parts of our country are facing a drought, that could put at risk the most vulnerable among our citizens.

Prayer Corner 7

March 13, 2008

Msafara has successfully gone through Mombasa, Nairobi, Naivasha, Nakuru and now is in Eldoret. Praise God that despite the resistance from the enemy, a new dawn of healing and unity is taking root through the prayers of the saints.

A missionary gave a Bible to a coastal church father in Mombasa as a symbolic sign of the Gospel’s re entry and consequent acceptance at the Coast. Continue praying for the coastal people that God would totally free them from any covenants that were made in opposition to the spread of the Gospel. Pray that any resistance to the spread of the Gospel in the coast would not see the light of day.

Thank God for the prayers in Nairobi. Pray that as the centre of the nation, the prayers that went out from the square would indeed free the nation from any forms of spiritual bondage to demonic forces.

The peace accord that was signed between the President and Hon. Raila Odinga is not the ultimate answer to peace in the country. Pray against any spirits that may want to frustrate the peace process. Pray for wisdom for our leaders as they seek to entrench the accord in the constitution. Pray against any careless utterances that may inflame passions among Kenyans.

Nakuru is healed in the name of Jesus. Thank God for the new found reconciliation in the church. Pray that this would spread to every pastor in the town and that even those who did not attend the Msafara events would catch the flames of peace and reconciliation. God is clearly doing a new thing in the Nakuru church. Pray that this work would come to completion. Pray against the spirit of division in the town.

One side of Nakuru town is literally a ghost town as all the houses are burnt and there is no sign of life there. Pray for those who lost their houses and property in the skirmishes. Pray against the spirit of revenge. Pray that God would overlook bloodshed and destruction in Nakuru and restore the city. Pray for provision and peace for the displaced. Pray against the spirit of the militia in this city. Pray that God’s Spirit would be exalted in Nakuru.

Eldoret is one of the most defiled towns in the country following the bloodletting in the city. It is here that people were burnt in a church and there are countless tales of horror upon horror as humans were butchered in this city. Confess on behalf of the city and that in God’s wrath He would remember mercy.  Particularly pray for forgiveness, that irrespective of the pain and hurt that occurred, people would forgive one another and God would forgive this city. Pray for continued reconciliation in the church. Pray against any altars in this city and particularly against the altar of free masonry. It is in Eldoret where the first Masonic temple was built in Kenya.

Msafara heads for Kisumu tomorrow. Pray for success as we head to the lakeside city. Pray for freedom for the captives in this city, healing and that peace would be established.

Day 5 – Nakuru: When Healing flowed like a river!

March 12, 2008

The cry of the city was “what have you brought us?” Bishop Njiiri of the KAG church shared from 1 Pet. 3:8-15 on the need to take a firm stand as priests for God at the pastors’ meeting. Nakuru was one of the most divided towns during the elections and if there ever was a need in this town, it was the need for healing amongst the clergy.

The Msafara moment in Nakuru on the first day was when an altar call was made and all of the pastors knelt in admission of the fact that they all “took swords and killed each other” during the elections. Pastors who earlier had accused each other of sponsoring violence against one another openly confessed, repented and forgave each other. That a righteous man falls seven times and seven times rises came true as the Nakuru pastors once again realized that their calling is to feed the sheep and collectively owned up.

The same spirit was repeated at the prayer service on day two. It was very clear that the Spirit of God was working out healing amongst the pastors and the second Msafara moment was when all the pastors wrote their names and those of their churches and placed them at the altar as a symbolic gesture that they were giving them back to God.

If there was anything that God used Msafara to accomplish in this town, it was the newfound healing amongst the clergy with the meetings ending with the pastors hugging and expressing love one to another. Pastors who had accused one another were together and had communion together. Nakuru pastors who earlier said no to Msafara even asked that we would come back and do a seminar to move them to the next level of healing and ministry. What a blessing it was to hear this!

God used Msafara in Nakuru to leave behind a church united in spirit and purpose ready to minister to the needs of the city.

Naivasha: In an Hour!

March 11, 2008

Even though a brief stop, many people joined the Naivasha prayer meeting after Msafara snaked itself round the town announcing our arrival. The prayer session was marked by repentance and starting with the sins of the fathers, everybody repented before God for the part that they played in the crisis signifying a new beginning in this town for tribes to co-exist and peace to prevail.
