With no hope and with the people of Eldoret in a state of bewilderment, Bishop Simon of Haapnet ministry too it upon themselves to begin a peace initiative. They rallied other churches to provide and distribute humanitarian aid as well as pray with and counsel the internally displaced. It was a dangerous venture with tribes so divided that the hatred could almost be felt.
In addition to humanitarian work, the church in Eldoret organized prayer and fasting for a month. The men and women of God stood in the gap so that peace would prevail in Eldoret.
Bishop Simon and his team began teaching the affected people about loving one another and living together in harmony. The peace initiative, in concert with prayer and fasting, broke the chains and peace slowly began to return to the city of Eldoret.
Haapnet ministries now have a repentance and reconciliation programme that covers counseling and distribution of relief aid with community elders and key leaders also engaged in the programme. As the church continues to support the victims of oppression and violence, they hope their initiatives will go a long way, not only to help restore the lives of many mired in the post election violence, but also that through fasting and prayer the spirit of ethnicity will be shattered.
